Google Earth is a phenomenal product that comes embedded with the power to reach those sot after skills the best business and edtech leaders are advocating for. We invite you to join us on this Educational Technology Journey as we uncover how this tool can be used in our classrooms.
Here's our idea: We are going to spend 2 weeks learning GoogleEarth anyway you desire. It may be individually, in small groups, in social networking through iChat or AIM. While you learn you will be creating a "flight plan" and a scavenger hunt along the way. You will post your notes using GoogleDocsand GoogleNotebook. This plan can be for you, your relatives, or maybe one of the following [short list]: doctor, philanthropist, scientist and maybe they have a life goal to discover a cure for some weird bacterial outbreak. Think creative and have fun with it while you work toward a set of standards your students need to know
However you learn - IT will be great because it will be "your way", the way you learn best. It's how our students want to learn and what brain-based research tells us. The culminating event will be a Sharing session, where we all come together to share each others excitement in presenting what we learned. We know there are some great thinkers out here among us!!! This event will be held at the [Tech Building] prior to our last Laptop Initiative focus group day Sunday, April 28, 2008. The GoogleEarth sharing event will begin at 1:15 pm and convene at 3:30 pm in order to allow a break for team members attending the entire 6 hour day.
We will plan on creating a podcast of the event and learn a little the next couple of weeks after GoogleEarth. We just need to record the audio and video which will lead us in to using GarageBand. If anyone is interested in helping create this please e-mail. This event will be open to ALL staff who are interested to see what others can share.
This wiki is open to only USD 352 staff who have experience in editing pages by request only. We welcome you to create and share a different set of links that will follow what Tanya and Karla have added thus far.
